Youd think that being part of the biggest band on the planet might mean BTS would get away with not taking part in military service in South Korea, but youd be wrong.
Even the K-Pop superstars have to take part in the compulsory conscription in their native country, which is mandatory for male citizens aged between 18 and 28, due to tensions with neighbouring North Korea.
The only exceptions are for athletes or artists who win international competitions on behalf of the country – but being in the worlds biggest active boy band apparently doesnt count.
None of the band, which consists of Jungkook, Jimin, V, J-Hope, RM, Jin and Suga, have yet to serve, but Jin is likely to be called up soon as he will turn 27 in December, as service last between 18 and 22 months.
No exception will be made for the band, according to The Hollywood Reporter, who obtained a statement from South Korean officials, but they are reviewing the policy for the future.
It reads: The Ministry of Defence is currently debating with related authorities on improving the current alternate service [programme] in place of conscription, but nothing has been decided as to when a change may take effect.

The Army have been pleading with the government to let the boys off having to serve so they can fulfil their band commitments instead.

Jin previously told CBS that the boys were fully prepared to be called up: As a Korean, its natural, and someday, when duty calls well be ready to respond and do our best.
BTS are currently enjoying a break from their hectic touring schedule, but will resume their Love Yourself: Speak Yourself tour in October in Saudi Arabia.
