Just when you thought it wasnt possible – some of the most politically disparate Americans have finally come to agree on one thing: the Waffle House hero.

New York-Based journalist Yashar Ali started a GoFundMe page for James Shaw Jr., the hero who charged and contained the man who killed four people in a Waffle House this weekend.

And while Shaw Jr. maintains that he is not a hero, a ton of other people on both the left and the right seem to think otherwise.

As soon as Yashar Alis GoFundMe page went live on Monday, it started racking up donations. TMZ reports that outspoken celebrities like Busy Phillips, Jon Cryer, and Kristin Davis all made donations to the page, as well as right-wing journalist and author Mike Cernovich. The fundraisers initial goal was to raise $50,000 for James Shaw Jr. but has already raised close to $62,000 in just one day.

Ali writes that he was inspired to start the GoFundMe page after James Shaw Jr. started one of his own to raise money for the families of the victims in the Waffle House shooting. That page – which had a goal of $15,000 – has already raised $99,725 in just two days.

“According to news reports, James has a four-year-old daughter,” Ali writes on his GoFundMe set up for Shaw Jr. “Perhaps this money can be used for her college fund or some other education related expense. But Id be just as happy if James used some of this money to take his family on a nice vacation.”

This is an awesome story, and its pretty miraculous to see people on both sides of the political spectrum come together to honor a national hero. James Shaw Jr. – who says he is healing through his faith – deserves all the money and respect this country has to offer him.
