Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg today apologized to the social networks users in Germany in the wake of a data breach scandal involving the data of 50 million Facebook users.
“You may have heard about a quiz app built by a university researcher that leaked Facebook data of millions of people in 2014. This was a breach of trust and Im sorry we didnt do more at the time,” Zuckerberg wrote in an advertisement published in Süddeutsche Zeitung and Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, among other papers, today.
In the ad, Zuckerberg says Facebook will take all necessary steps to prevent other such incidents from occurring in the future. The Facebook CEO published similar advertisements in British newspapers on Sunday.
Allegations that London-based company Cambridge Analytica gained access to the data of millions of Facebook profiles and used the information to influence the 2016 U.S. presidential election have reignited demands that Facebook and other platforms do more to police what happens on their sites.
