Turtle Beach Stealth 300 Headphones Review – Well built, sturdy and comfortable to wear Turtle Beach tend to be our go-to earphone makers when it comes to video game audio. They just seem to get what it is most gamers are looking for in a well-made headset.Namely comfort, kick-ass sound and an edge over the competition when it comes to audio in games. The stealth 300s are somewhat budget compared to other Turtle Beach headsets weve reviewed in recent years. Their still hefty £70 price tag pales in comparison to our favourite wireless Elite 800s coming in at £180. But these little beauties still pack a great punch for the price. Those gamers looking for a mid-tier headset that is well rounded and offers a decent audio solution should sit up and pay attention. Because the Stealth 300s, while not quite in our best-of league, do a very good job. Its clear these cans are aimed at the Fortnite generation. I can imagine a sea of teenagers hooked on the free-to-play shooter getting these as birthday and Christmas presents from mum and dad in the coming months. Despite looking quite plasticky in pictures, they feel remarkably well built when you first get your hands on them. Theres a sturdiness, a robustness that says drop me and Ill probably be alright. I didnt test the theory but they have a weight to them and an overall sheen that says quality rather than cheap. Taking a leaf out of the popular Stealth 600 design, the headset caters for people with glasses, allowing space for the sides of the glasses down past the ears without affecting comfort. Related Articles Equally, for those without the need for specs, theyre just as comfortable to wear, with the extensive memory foam padding around both the ears and metal-reinforced headband giving you hours of play without any aches and pains. The mic design is really cool too. Its flipped backwards, into the headset for off and flipped forwards into a perfect front-of-mouth position to turn them on. And in-game, the level sits nicely as youre rowing with your team directing those crucial kills. The sound itself is fairly impressive, particularly at the low end of the spectrum. Those bass notes really ring out, ideal for gun games like Fortnite and Call of Duty, making every explosion, every gunshot rattle effectively in your ears. Theres a clarity at the top end but I felt that got muddied a bit during intense firefights, with the mids and highs mixing awkwardly, leaving me struggling to pick the chatter apart from the general hum of battle.

You dont get that in the likes of the Elites, but then you are paying three times the money for those amazing cans. The set up from the box is very straightforward, youll be playing within minutes but as this is a wired-only set it means youre tied somewhat to the controller and cant just wander the house with the headset on like I like to do. Thats fine for gaming but if you want to use them for music it can be limiting. Also, despite being wired, you still have to USB charge these bad boys to power up the in-built amp. Thats more a wireless headset thing and a bit confusing for a Wired pair. And, final niggle, the four built-in EQs for the headset didnt feel massively different to one another to be honest. Id have preferred two, maybe three, varying EQs to more that just sounded generic with tweaks to the edges of the sound. All in though, a very well made pair of cans that will last you hours on end comfortably and offer immersive, deep gameplay sound thats worthy of the price tag.
