A genuine bank holiday miracle has occurred: a new Streets Of Rage is on its way from the makers of Wonder Boy: The Dragons Trap.
Weekend Hot Topic, part 3: Most anticipated games of 2018
As unlikely as it sounds, Sega has agreed to licence the rights to a new Streets Of Rage game, with a new 2D sequel due, well… they havent said when its due yet but it is definitely a real thing that is actually happening.
Sega themselves doesnt seem to be actively involved and instead the game is being created by retro distributor DotEmu, Wonder Boy: The Dragons Trap developer Lizardcube, and Guard Crush Games – who made Streets Of Rage tribute game Streets Of Fury.
They all seem perfect for the job, and the set-up is reminiscent of the way Sega handled Sonic Mania – where rather than use in-house developers they let their fans make the game instead.

Apart from the good news itself there are very few details about Streets Of Rage 4 at the moment, but you can see from the trailer above that it uses an art style not dissimilar to Lizardcubes work on Wonder Boy: The Dragons Trap.
The other main take away is that series regulars Axel Stone and Blaze Fielding are both already confirmed for the sequel, although were willing to bet other familiar faces will also be making an appearance.

Theres no info on what formats Streets Of Rage 4 will be appearing on, but since it doesnt look likely to require much horsepower itll probably be on all consoles and PC.
The move is exactly what fans hoped would result from the success of Sonic Mania, and with a bit more luck will pave the way for other retro comebacks like Golden Axe and Shinobi. Or at least thats what were hoping for.
