Sure, the trailer – like young Han Solo (Alden Ehrenreich) himself – might still look "a little rough around the edges", but we're being reassured with touches great and small that all is "good."
"You're after something. Is it revenge? Money? Or is it something else?" intones Qi'Ra (Emilia Clarke), ticking off the cues that clue in viewers to the beats of a sci-fi heist.
"I know a guy. He's the best smuggler around," we hear as the trailer introduces us to Lando Calrissian (Donald Glover), who surely is retro-cool, we're signaled, because he punctuates phrases with "baby".
Then there's the requisite "I've got a really good feeling about this", and how you feel about the tone of this trailer might be reflected entirely in how you view Ehrenreich's spin on the four-decade catchphrase.
The film has faced a bumpy ride to theatres since production began in January 2017, after original directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller were dumped over "creative differences", six months into the project.
Ron Howard's reclamation of the Solo project, which included five weeks of scheduled reshoots, opens in Australia on May 24. When it opens in the US the following day, it's expected to have a box office debut north of $US150 million.
The film will have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, more than a week before it opens wide.
