Second Sight PS4 and Xbox games INCOMING? Koch Media acquires rights to PS2 stealth series
Second Sight – Latest News
On 15 August 2018, Koch Media and Deep Silver announced it had acquired the rights to both TimeSplitters and Second Sight – both originally Free Radical games.
"Largely considered as one of the most influential console games of the early 2000s Timesplitters was originally created by Free Radical Design, who later became Crytek UK Ltd and finally Deep Silver Dambuster, also part of the Koch Media family," notes the press release.
"The three game series earned a large and passionate fan base thanks to its unique humour, art style and pop culture references while encouraging customisation and modification to give each person their own individual experience."
“We are hugely excited to have acquired Timesplitters” commented Klemens Kundratitz, CEO Koch Media GmbH “The original games gave fans a massive content offer and provided a pure and genuinely fun arcade shooter experience. We have many fans of the Timesplitters series among our own staff who are passionate about creating a product that will thrill today's gaming audience.”
The press release doesn't mention too much about the Second Sight property, but we expect to hear more about the title soon – especially if the last bit of the release is anything to go by.
The press release concludes: "Full details of future Timesplitters and Second Sight products will be revealed in due course," so expect to hear more information soon.

Second Sight – What we know so far
Second Sight was a science fiction action-adventure stealth Single-player video game, developed by Free Radical Design.
The game was originally published by Codemasters for GameCube, PlayStation 2, Xbox and Microsoft Windows, and though it didn't sell particularly well, the game reviewed well and has seen a lot of retroactive praise since its release.
The game originally launched in 2004 saw players tackle levels in the United States and Siberia, taking on the role of an American parapsychology researcher who was trying to figure out more about their past whilst coming to terms with their powerful psychic abilities.
Second Sight – What happened to the sequel?
According to a thorough report from Eurogamer, there were a variety of factors affecting the sequel and Free Radical ahead of Second Sight 2's expected release.
"Overall it didn't generate sufficient interest for us to feel it was worth making a sequel," former Crytek UK boss Karl Hilton noted to Destructoid.
"We had some ideas ready, but we decided it didn't have any momentum as a new franchise. Codemasters gave Second Sight good support and we even released a PC version (which wasn't part of the original release plan). Ultimately history appears to have been much kinder to the game than we would have thought after its initial release."
Apparently, press reviews weren't positive enough overall to warrant the studio risking investment in a new title, and the franchise was shelved.
We're looking forward to seeing what THQ Nordic and Deep Silver does with the IP.
