Rockstar News: Red Dead Redemption 2 Update, GTA Online DLC, Red Dead Online Money Economy (Pic: ROCKSTAR)
Red Dead Redemption 2 continues to go from strength to strength and this week Rockstar Games set about the long process of updating and improving Red Dead Online.
The games first Online update was released Friday and was primarily concerned with addressing some of the main concerns raised by the community since Online launched
According to Rockstar these first changes were "geared towards creating a more balanced, fun and rewarding overall experience, across all modes and missions."
Here's a look at some of those main changes:
- Increasing the cash and gold payments across a number of different activities including Free Roam Missions, Free Roam Events, replays of A Land of Opportunities Missions, Showdown Series modes and more.
- Reducing the prices of most weapons in the Wheeler, Rawson & Co Catalogue and Gunsmiths. For players that have already purchased weapons at the previous prices, we will automatically deposit the difference to player balances starting today – please look for an alert message the next time you log in to the Red Dead Online Beta to notify you of this change, refunds may take up until December 10th to reach all players.
- Balancing the values of select pelts, skins and fish as well as horse reviver and pamphlets.
You will no doubt notice these changes immediately, and you can see a couple of examples just below showing how a number of weapons have been significantly decreased.
But this wasn't the only surprise Rockstar had, also announcing an extra reward for some players who had been playing the beta.
"As an added thank you for playing and helping us through the beta period, we're also awarding everyone that joined in to play the Red Dead Online Beta at any point through midnight PST today with a gift of RDO$250 and 15 Gold Bars."
These gifts should have already started arriving and will hit all eligible players by Friday, December 14th.
However, this wasn't the biggest Red Dead Redemption 2 news this week, with the Wild West sequel also up for an astonishing eight awards at the 2018 Games Awards presented by Geoff Keighley.
This included awards for: Game of the Year, Best Game Direction, Best Narrative, Best Art Direction, Best Score, Best Audio Design, Best Performance (For Roger Clark as Arthur Morgan) and Best Action/Adventure Game.
And following the ceremony the game walked away with four awards in total, winning the following categories: Best Narrative, Best Score, Best Audio Design and Best Performance.
For those interested, Geoff Keighley managed to sit down for an interview with several of the composers up for the Best Score award, including the team behind the Red Dead Redemption 2 score.
"Ask any avid gamer and theyll tell you: Music sets the tone for gameplay. It has the power to hype you up for a battle, suck you into a plot, and drive you to victory.
"Matching music to a video game isnt an afterthought; its a complex creative endeavor worthy of celebration."
The interview was in collaboration with Spotify and can be listened to here, for anyone keen to know more about the creative process of writing an interactive musical score.
The new podcast, hosted by veteran video games journalist and The Game Awards producer Geoff Keighley, will take gaming fans inside the creative process of writing an interactive musical score.
Lastly, for this Rockstar round-up, some more news about GTA Online, and yet another big set of discounts and rewards for players
