Original Story – The new Red Dead Redemption 2 update 1.04 has just been released by Rockstar Games and is now available to download on PS4 and Xbox One this afternoon.

According to reliable Twitter sources for Rockstar Games, this new RDR2 update is a pretty hefty 1.32GB on PS4.

Although there is no news as of yet how big this update is on Xbox One for the time being.

The Patch Notes are not currently available but will likely be dropping shortly.

As such, it's impossible to tell exactly what the new update has changed in the game, but according to Express.co.uk the update is primarily focussed on "fixes to Red Dead Online."

The in-game description for this update describes the changes, simply as:

"Update 01.04 – Red Dead Online Beta bug fixes and improvements” although, for the time being it's not possible to say if there have been any further changes.

We'll likely find out soon though.

It's possible, for instance, that the game will look to add some new modes, after one Redditor claimed to find a new mode in the menu called Gun Rush.

“I was about to quick join a showdown series but for a split second there were 2 more options,” reads donajello1s post. “I clipped it and this is what was there. Probably a new game mode coming with the update this week?”

the suggestion is that this could be similar to GTA Online's Kill Quota mode, which is described by Rockstar as such:

"Starting off with a high-powered weapon from one of four distinct loadout options, each team must hit the designated body count before advancing to a more challenging and less powerful armament, culminating with a final, one-hit-kill melee round."

Although a slightly more boring perspective is that the update is simply adding further balancing to the game following last week's update which the developers said was intended to "improve and balance the Red Dead Online Beta"

Here's a look at some of those main changes:

  • Increasing the cash and gold payments across a number of different activities including Free Roam Missions, Free Roam Events, replays of A Land of Opportunities Missions, Showdown Series modes and more.
  • Reducing the prices of most weapons in the Wheeler, Rawson & Co Catalogue and Gunsmiths. For players that have already purchased weapons at the previous prices, we will automatically deposit the difference to player balances starting today – please look for an alert message the next time you log in to the Red Dead Online Beta to notify you of this change, refunds may take up until December 10th to reach all players.
  • Balancing the values of select pelts, skins and fish as well as horse reviver and pamphlets.

It's possible that today's update is just a continuation of those changes, which Rockstar suggested would be an ongoing process, telling fans:

“We are conscious of and still evaluating an assortment of further adjustments based on feedback from the community.

“We are currently working on fixes for some persistent bugs that are causing some players to be kicked from sessions, and we aim to have fixes for these live next week.

“Once again, we want to thank everyone for playing the Red Dead Online Beta and sharing their experiences so far with us.

“Theres still lots more to come so please stay tuned.”

“We want to thank the Red Dead community for playing and sending us tons of valuable feedback during the first full week of the Red Dead Online Betas availability

“This feedback is crucial to help shape the game as we move forward.

“We are starting to implement the first set of adjustments to the game including changes specifically geared towards creating a more balanced, fun and rewarding overall experience, across all modes and missions.”

Stay tuned for more news and patch notes as they become available.
