PSN Update 1 –
According to the PlayStation support account on Twitter, AskPS_UK, the problems currently encountering PSN users are external and not related to PSN services.
They've been replying to users online with the following message:
"Hi! PSN services are up and running, but there are external, internet-wide issues that may affect your experience. Once these external issues are resolved, you should be able to connect to PlayStation Network"

Original Story – PS4 players are facing a frustrating evening as the PSN PlayStation Network appears to be down.
The popular service seemed to hit trouble in the last half hour and Independent outage Independent website Down Detector has received thousands of reports that PSN is down across the UK and Europe.
The outage tracker monitors social mentions around certain topics to detect outages across the world.
Of those reporting issues it appears as though PSN users are encountering sign-in issues and a WS-37505-0 error message.
And Sony's own Network Status Page is also showing services as being disrupted, although at the time or writing the website is only mentioning issues related to the PlayStation Store.
