Eighteen years after the original flew the roost and landed in cinemas worldwide, a sequel to Chicken Run is reportedly in the works at Aardman Animations.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the British studio – best known for Wallace and Gromit – is developing the chick flick sequel alongside StudioCanal and Pathe.
Chicken Run – directed by Peter Lord and Wallace and Gromit creator Nick Park – was more than a poultry success, netting $224.8m (£161.3m) at the box office worldwide to become the highest-grossing stop-motion animated film of all-time.
Sam Fell will be in the director's chair this time and will be keen to avoid ending up with egg on his face, having been at the helm for Aardman's 2006 hit Flushed Away.
There is no word on whether the original cast, which included Mel Gibson and Julia Sawalha, will return to the coop.
It is also likely that the film will take a while to hatch, with stop-motion animation a notoriously long process. The production crew on the original took a whole week to film just one minute of footage.
Chicken Run 2 will therefore likely arrive in cinemas more than two decades after the original premiered, continuing a recent trend of sequels arriving well after their predecessors.
