PS5 Games: ALL Sony PlayStation 5 Release Date Games Confirmed, Rumoured or Leaked (Pic: Daily Star)

Sony is working on the successor to the PlayStation 4 – that much is no surprise.

Over the last year or so, we've heard a lot of rumours about the PlayStation 5 and what its launch may look like.

For example, we've got a good idea of what the PlayStation 5 release date price may be, and we have an idea of how Sony will approach PS5 backwards compatibility. There's even been some hints at what the PS5 Graphics could look like thanks to some sneaky GT Sport 8K video showcased by Sony in Japan.

But enough questions, what about the games that'll come to the console? After all, every consoles' release is defined by the titles it has at launch.

The launch lineup for the PS4 and Xbox One was famously pretty underwhelming – despite our affection for Guerilla Games Killzone series.

So can Sony afford to make that error twice in a row?

Luckily, based on a variety of confirmed news, rumours and several leaks we have so far, it looks like Sony actually has some pretty good projects in line for the PS5.

Here's everything we know so far.

PlayStation 5 Games – What to expect

Anthem (EA, Bioware)

EA's take on the 'shared world shooter' that has been popularised by Destiny is due out in February 2019. Similarly to Destiny, which launched cross-gen on PS4 and PS3, we could see the early version of Anthem exist on the current-gen before EA migrates the game to PlayStation 5.

Cyberpunk 2077 (CD Projekt Red)

Cyberpunk 2077 is the next RPG from acclaimed developer CD Projekt Red, which will take on a sci-fi setting (in contrast to the studio's previous title, The Witcher 3, which was part of the fantasy genre).

CD Projekt Reds Piotr Nielubowicz and Adam Kiciński spoke at the Pareto Securities Gaming Seminar 2018 event and part of what they said may nod to the future of console gaming.

Part of the presentation the duo offered to explain the game to eager onlookers detailed something important: that it would be built on current and 'next generation' technology.

That means we could see a cross-generation release for the game, seeing an initial launch on PS4 and Xbox One, but then coming to whatever Microsoft and Sony do next, too.

The downside of this? It means we're certainly not going to see the game launch soon – anything cross-gen tends to come towards the end of a game console's life cycle… and the PS4 and Xbox One certainly have some life in them yet.

You can see the seminar this is mentioned in here.

Death Stranding (Sony, Kojima Productions)

Metal Gear Solid developer and all-around games superstar Hideo Kojima's next project is Death Stranding – a game that promises to be a completely off-the-wall, bizarre experience from start to finish. We can't wait.

Whilst the game was originally announced for PS4, the development time of the game and the fact it still goes without a release date means that we could see Sony commit to a cross-platform release by the time the PS5 is announced.

We expect to hear a release date for the game soon.

Ghost of Tsushima (Sony, Sucker Punch)

Ghost of Tsushima is a brand new IP from developer Sucker Punch, a studio best known for its work on the Infamous series of games, as well as creating the Sly Cooper games.

The new game will see you take on the role of a samurai, fighting in the Tsushima region of Japan against invading forces.

A job listing on the developer's site could shed a little light on when we could see Ghost of Tsushima ship.

The listing over on the site states: “Were always looking for people who share our drive to make great games. We celebrate self-starters who care about the details. So, if youve always wanted to work on a samurai game in feudal Japan, then check out our positions below.”

The listings available are for an Environment Artist, Senior Environment Artist, Facilities Coordinator, Senior HR Office Manager, and Gameplay Programmer – the first and last of those titles suggest the game is quite early in development… gameplay programming is key to a game from the early stages, and generally speaking environmental development is done in the early stages, too.

Long story short, don't expect this game in 2018. It's likely it could release even as late as 2020 – in line with the supposed launch of the PlayStation 5.

God Of War 2 (Sony, Sony Santa Monica)

A series of tweets, hints and suggestions from the game's development team seems to roundly suggest we're going to see more from the angry Greek god – and sooner rather than later.

Back in an interview chief Daily Star Online gaming reporter James Wright conducted with director Cory Barlog at E3 2017, it was clear there were hopes for more than just one rebooted God of War.

"For me, I am just trying to get this game done," Barlog replied when we asked about future plans for the series. "But I will say that when I chose this story, I had chosen it because I already outlined and mapped out stories for multiple games.

"I have an arc in my head that goes well beyond this game and everything that we are doing in God of War, to me, is very much building towards that.

"Like you see the second God of War game and it ends with Kratos going up to Olympus. Everybody said that it was the stupidest decision like why are you doing this, nobody wants a cliffhanger ending.

"But I was like, whatever, this is awesome. This is telling people more to come, this is great.

"And with this game, I think people know that were going to be here for a while.

"Me personally, I know Ive got a couple more of these in me."

Considering we saw the first game launch this year (2018), we aren't going to see a new one for some time – likely at least 2020… in line with a theoretical launch of the PlayStation 5.

Horizon Zero Dawn 2 (Sony, Guerrilla Games)

Shawn Layden, Sonys Chairman of SIE Worldwide Studios was particually glowing about Horizon and Guerrilla Games during at interview with The Telegraph in 2017, following the companies successful E3 2017 press conference.

Layden told The Telegraph:

"Thats another studio I dont tell them what to do. The Guerrilla team have spent 10 or 12 years on the Killzone franchise and Horizon Zero Dawn could not be more different from Killzone if it had tried.

"When they said they wanted to come up with an open world, heavily nature-based kind of game using all the different colours they had never used in Killzone – like blue. And red, and yellow, and green – it was a big stretch goal for them but they nailed it.

"The reception for the game has been fantastic. [Guerrilla Games head honcho] Hermen Hulst has got a very keen mind on where he wants to take Horizon and what the roadmap is – and that roadmap is expressed in multiple years.

"I think well be in the Horizon business for a long time."

It stands to reason we'll see the next game surface on the PlayStation 5.

Elder Scrolls 6 (Bethesda)

An official blurb for Elder Scrolls 6 notes:

"Currently in pre-production at Bethesda Game Studios, the acclaimed developers of Skyrim and Fallout 4. The highly-anticipated next chapter in the iconic The Elder Scrolls series."

At E3 2018 Todd Howard was quite forward with stating that this game is set to arrive on next-gen consoles, but importantly it's also set to arrive after Bethesda have concluded work on Starfield.

"Starfield is a game we've spent years thinking about and working on, something we feel uniquely positioned to pull off, and we're incredibly excited about," Howard said. "But we're also building toward the game after that… and it's the one you keep asking about."

A PS4 and Xbox Scarlett game then? Almost certainly.

Starfield (Bethesda)

An interview with The Telegraph in November has delved into why Bethesda announced Starfield and The Elder Scrolls VI as 'next-gen' titles.

"It was a couple of things," replies Bethesda's Pete Hines – Vice President of Bethesda Softworks – when asked why now was the right time to announce these ambitious games.

"Number one we were honestly a little tired of being asked about Elder Scrolls VI. And the Starfield trademark filing and dancing around those things. Elder Scrolls VI we didnt really dance around, we said yes were going to do it but there are two games to come first.

"But that didnt really catch on and we still had people asking when are you going to do it. And part of it was because Fallout 76 was a departure for them and saying look, we want to try something very different than what weve done before.

"We want to make it very clear to folks that this isnt what all Bethesda Game Studios look like now. The next game we are making is Starfield. It is a new IP, its a single-player role-playing game that folks understand. And then were going to make Elder Scrolls VI.

"They understand the context that this is something different but we want to try it. You guys are constantly asking us about multiplayer and playing with other folks, so we want to try that. But then we are going to go back to something you know us better for and well get around to The Elder Scrolls VI.

"It just helps paint a better picture and a road-map for whats next and what thats going to look like. Even if that doesnt come with a date of when that game is going to come out or when well show it to you."

A PS5 game confirmed? It's practically certain.

The Last of Us 2 (Sony, Naughty Dog)

There has been no official word on when we can expect The Last of Us Part II to release on the PlayStation 4.

However, we do know that development on the game started back in 2014, and motion capture for the title started in 2016, so a lot of the pieces are certainly coming together.

Naughty Dog noted the game was around 50-60% done in December 2017. So whilst we are most likely going to see the game launch on PS4, we could see another version of the game release on PS5, too – the same as we did with the original game.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 (Sony, Insomniac Games)

We pretty much know that we're going to get a sequel to Spider-Man (it was one of the best-selling games of the year, Sony won't sleep on that).

We're not even going to see it announced for a while, and when it lands it's pretty much guaranteed to be a next-gen title.

Dragon Age: The Dread Wolf Rises (EA, BioWare)

At The Game Awards 2018, BioWare announced The Dread Wolf Rises.

The upcoming action RPG (due to launch on Xbox One, PS4 and PC) has no release date to speak of just yet, but it's unlikely to arrive anytime soon. We say this, as all signs from Bioware has seemed to suggest that Anthem is currently the studio's main project.

As such, we're expecting a 2020 release – at the very earliest.

Destiny 3 (Activision, Bungie)

The rumour of a Destiny 3 has stemmed from the popular Destiny leaker AnonTheNine.

While the information should be taken with a pinch of salt, there is enough precedent and information from the prolific leaker to make it believable.

The leaker has a strong track record when it comes to Bungie leaks, but plans can change.

The sequel has not yet been officially announced by Bungie, but the Reddit user believes a project is in development.

The leaker revealed it has just entered development, which means we wouldnt hold our breath just yet.

AnonTheNine suggests the game will follow the usual cycle, which means three years after the release of Destiny 2.

Therefore, we wouldnt expect to see the launch of Destiny 3 until 2020.

Call of Duty [Infinity Ward] (Activision, Infinity Ward)

Thanks to the way the release schedule works for Call of Duty games, we can expect to see Infinity Ward's version of the game launch next year.

Similar to Call of Duty Ghosts, we can infer that because of the timing of the release, we could see the title get a cross-gen release.
