PS4 News: Sony surprise fans with a BIG PlayStation console sales announcement (Pic: GETTY)
Sony PlayStation was greeted with some quite remarkable console news this week as it was revealed that October 2018 was actually one of the best Octobers for any PlayStation console ever.
Not bad for a company who've been selling PlayStation's for over 25 years.
According to the industry-tracking firm in the states known as the NPD Group (Via ,VentureBeat) PlayStation also outperformed the Xbox One and Nintendo Switch with their PS4 console.
As with the case of most months, the PlayStation 4 also saw year-over-year growth, according to one NPD analyst and trusted source of gaming industry intel, Mat Piscatella.
“PlayStation 4 hardware unit sales achieved an all-time October high for the platform,” Piscatella said. “While PlayStation 4 hardware dollar sales reached its highest point for an October month since October 2014.”
“October 2018 unit sales of PlayStation 4 reached the highest mark for any PlayStation hardware platform in an October month since the PlayStation 2 in October 2002,” said Piscatella.
PlayStation 4 outperformed the Xbox One and Nintendo Switch both in terms of dollars and units sold in October. Thats according to industry-tracking firm The NPD Group.
As if that wasn't enough, Sony appeared to sneak in another big accolade into one of their latest adverts.
The advert (which you can watch above) appears to claim that Sony's PS4 has been the highest selling console in Australia every year for the past five years.
Interestingly and whats clearly more impressive is that Sony has managed this achievement despite their main competitors releasing new consoles or cheaper models.
So whilst we've all been impressed with the likes of the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One S and Xbox One X, none have managed to unseat Sony's own PS4 console.
Granted, this is only one part of the entire world, but if this is a reflection of other countries across the globe, it certainly puts Sony's PlayStation dominance into sharp perspective.
Looking to the future this dominance only looks like improving for Sony's PS4. Whilst the company might be skipping E3 2019, they do still have plenty of big name exclusive games on the horizon.
Already 2019 looks bright with the release of Days Gone, Concrete Genie and Dreams in the early part of the year.
But there's also more significant AAA games that might also drop in the latter part of 2019 including The Last of Us Part 2, Death Stranding and Ghost of Tsushima.
In fact, those last two titles could have their release dates revealed in just under two weeks times.
Rumours originating from Brazil suggests that Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding and SuckerPunch's Ghost of Tsushima could both make some big announcements at the 2019 Games Awards.
Only time will tell, but we're looking forward to seeing what Game Awards host Geoff Keighley has in store for everyone come December 6th.
