Pokemon GO Raikou: August Field Research Pokemon REVEALED as Snorlax gets rotated out

It's almost time to see July turn into August and as the date changes over, so too does the featured Pokemon you can find in Pokemon GO.

This month, we're seeing the absolute unit that is Snorlax rotating out of the game to be replaced by one of the legendary generation 2 dogs – namely Raikou.

This is to complement August's Field Research that all revolve around the Electric-type, focusing on Pokemon such as Pikachu, Electrike and Mareep.

Do at least one research task per day and you'll be rewarded with the chance to interact with Raikou – the legendary dog of thunder.

"Trainers, we have an electrifying announcement for you! August Field Research tasks will focus on Electric-type Pokemon," reads a Niantic tweet.

"Also, if you collect enough stamps to earn a Research Breakthrough, youll have an opportunity to catch the Legendary Pokemon Raikou!"

This gives you the chance to grab the dog if you missed it during raids a few months back.

Pokemon GO Gen 3 Shiny Legendary Pokemon REVEAED – Celebi, Deoxys, Jirachi and more FOUND

Dataminer Crales has discovered more Pokemon hidden in the data traffic for Pokemon GO – including Pokemon GO Gen 3 Shiny Legendary Pokemon – Deoxys and Jirachi, as well as Gen 2's Celebi.

Raikou – Overview

Raikou is a pure Electric-type Pokemon and as such it's best countered with a number of Ground Pokmon – bear that in mind if you want to take the beast into battles against top-tier Ground Pokemon defending gyms.

Unlike the fellow Electric Legendary, Zapdos, Raikou doesn't have a secondary weakness, so you can put it to use against a good number of top tier defenders without too much pause (it's good for taking out tanks like Vaporeon, for example).

Raikou Best Movesets:

It's worth noting that these are the moves the beast had as a raid defender, but it's likely we'll see the same moves on the Pokemon from the Field Research appearances, too.

  • Thunder Shock ELECTRIC
  • Volt Switch ELECTRIC
  • Wild Charge ELECTRIC

Registeel Raid Guide: Best Counters, Moves, IVs and CPs

Planning to take down Registeel? Here's the best Pokemon to use for those Legendary Raids.

This comes after Registeel moved into the Tier 5 Raid spot earlier in the week.

Registeel is one of the three Legendary Regi Pokemon that was introduced in Gen 3 (Ruby and Sapphire) in the mainline Pokemon games.

It was a tough nut to crack in the main titles, and it's no easier to take down in Pokemon GO, either.

Registeel is now live in Pokemon Go as the Tier 5 Raid Boss – and it's a powerful monster, to be sure.

The big Titan will be available in Raids from July 19th to August 16th when it will presumably be replaced by Regirock.

As per other Raids, you'll need to team up with other Pokemon GO users in order to take down the Titan.

At the time of writing, Registeel is not soloable (meaning, you can't take him on with zero help) and it is recommended to have at least 5 or preferably 6 Trainers working together in order to take it down in raids.

As per other raids, once you've weakened the pure Steel-type monster, you'll be able to try and catch it.

Registeel is a good get – despite being weak to Fire, Ground and Fighting-type moves, its hard-hitting attacks are strong and often devastating against Ice, Rock and Fairy Pokemon.

You can see the full details of the Pokemon – and how to take it on in Raids – here.
