Pokemon Go players were left in a state of confusion and shock as the game’s developer appeared to implement shock changes to the Ex-Raid invite system.

Yesterday trainers around the world were shocked when for some reason when the game’s developer, Niantic, seemingly rolled out a huge change to the way Ex Raids (expert raids) worked.

Essentially people started to freak because it affects your chances of catching the legendary Pokemon, Mewtwo.

However, releasing a statement via their blog last night the game dev revealed all the changed had in fact been down to a bug.

The main problem with the change to the raids was that latest batch of invitations were sent to players with no recent raid activity at the gyms in question, and in some cases, zero raid activity for the gyms at all.

Things got even weirder when players received Ex Raid invitations for gyms that were too far away (other counties/states), while others were invited to gyms they raided while on holiday!

Making sure they quelled the storm of anger and resentment that was (justifiably) going around the community, Niantic addressed the issue in a statement.

It read: ‘With the latest batch of EX Raid Battle invites, we implemented a few changes to improve Trainer and Gym selection. Unfortunately, a bug was introduced when these changes were made, and, as a result, some Trainers were invited to participate in an EX Raid Battle at a Gym they may not have visited in several months.

‘This bug has already been resolved, and future invites will better represent how the updated invitation process is intended to function. Most importantly, Trainers will only receive an invitation if they’ve completed a Raid Battle at that Gym recently.’

All good and well.

However, they did say that the dev team have been working hard on improving and tweaking the Raid experience for trainers.

‘We’ve also made a couple changes that will impact the invitation process,’ the blog post added, before going into said changes.

EX Raid Battles will continue to be held in parks and sponsored locations, but the number of Gyms that meet the necessary criteria for an EX Raid Battle will increase.

This means the average number of Trainers invited per Gym will rise. And if raids weren’t already confusing (at least meeting the selection criteria) Niantic revealed they’ve tweaked the selection process.
