Overwatch Hero 31 release date teased: Next playable character coming after Summer Games? (Pic: DS)

Overwatch is famous for its vast array of characters that come in all shapes and sizes and let players engage with myriad different playstyles.

The biggest chat around Overwatch is usually (if there's not an event on) what the next character will be, and when they'll come to the game.

For a while now, we've had the knowledge that Hero 31 is on the way, and a new update from Jeff Kaplan this week has revealed that we may see them sooner (rather than later).

As per a new developer update from game director Jeff Kaplan, Overwatchs Summer Games 2019 will take place a little earlier than usual, then following the conclusion of the event, we'll get our first look at Hero 31.

So far, Kaplan hasn't revealed the exact release date for the now-classic annual event, but at least now we know we're definitely going to get it before early August (its traditional starting time).

Then, Kaplan goes on to tease the next character: “He is going to be awesome”. They just need 'a bit' more time to make him more awesome.

The fact that we know he wields two massive chainguns, has an energy shield and heavy armour means Blizzard has clearly been putting some thought into his design. We wonder why…

It looks like people are going to have to wait a while for that blue-faced Omnic, Echo.

In a recent interview with Geman Overwatch YouTube channel HighscoreHeroes, we got to hear a bit more information about a hero named Echo.

It was confirmed back then that we'd be waiting a little while to see the character – and now we know why!

On the channel Joshua Noh, a developer on the multi-player giant that is Overwatch, said:

"We're definitely going to make her a hero at some point. I don't thRead More – Source
