Meek Mill has had a busy 48 hours since his release from a state prison in Chester, PA.
Immediately after he was granted freedom, the rapper took a helicopter to Game 5 of the 76ers-Heat game in downtown Philly, where he rang the replica Liberty Bell and danced with Chris Rock and Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie. And while most of the Philly area breathed a sigh of relief after Meek was released, the rapper isnt feeling 100% assimilated.
In his first interview since being released from prison, Meek Mill told NBCs Lester Holt that he still doesnt feel free.
“I got a lot of important people depending on me, and not talking about them people [public officials]. Im talking about the men thats depending on me going through the same thing that Im going through,” he said. “This is a very important moment.”

Meek Mill also revealed he hasnt slept since his release and that hes having a hard time adjusting to the real world, coming from his tiny cell. Asked whether he feels free, Mill simply responded, “No, I dont feel free. I aint felt free since I caught this case at the age of 19. Im 30 now. And, me, I just pray. I believe God is my first lawyer.”
To the Philly District Attorneys office, Im grateful for your commitment to justice. I understand that many people of color across the country dont have that luxury and I plan to use my platform to shine a light on those issues.

Turns out, 76ers owner Michael Rubin sees things pretty similarly.
“The story is so much bigger than his life. This is about how can he be the symbolic change agent that was needed for major criminal justice reform. Thats why you should care,” Rubin told Lester Holt.
Meek Mill says he will continue to work for reform in the criminal justice system, despite still being on probation.
