Mario Kart Tour will be the first ever Mario Kart game on mobile but what do we know about the upcoming app?

Mario Kart has been one of the most successful video game franchises ever, since it first launched back in 1992.

Its simple controls and fun multiplayer has always been a hit with players no matter their age or level of experience, and now its coming to mobile with Mario Kart Tour.

But what exactly is Mario Kart Tour and how does it work? Heres everything we know about it.

Do I need a Nintendo Account to play Mario Kart Tour?

To start the game, you need to have a Nintendo Account; if you have played other Nintendo mobile games in the past you most likely already have one.

Whats the Mario Kart Tour release date?

Mario Kart Tour is out on iOS and Android on Wednesday, 25 September at 9am in the UK.

The game was officially announced in February last year and was meant to come out early 2019, but Nintendo does like making sure their titles are polished, so it was pushed back until September.

You can pre-register now and get a notification of when the game becomes available for you to download on Android and for pre-order on iOS.

How much will Mario Kart Tour cost?

The Mario Kart Tour website says free-to-start, with optional in-game purchases available. But that could mean a few things.

The most likely is that itll be free-to-play but filled to the brim with microtransactions, like most of Nintendos mobile games.

Alternatively, it might have a free trial like Super Mario Run, and then after a certain point youll have to pay to access the rest of the content. That option didnt prove popular with most customers though, so its unlikely to be that.

How do you play Mario Kart Tour?

Nintendo hasnt released any official details on how it plays, but from the look of the footage it works very similarly to the console Mario Kart games, but more streamlined.

Karts will automatically move forward while you drag your finger left or right to move in those directions. Some items you collect will be used instantly, such as invincibility stars, and some will have to be activated by a tap on the screen.

Maps are a mix of new tracks and those from previous entries in the franchise, including courses from the SNES, 3DS, and GameCube.
