Lena Dunham has denied claims she bit Beyonce on the face, saying the rumour had become a "special hell".

Actress Tiffany Haddish revealed in a recent interview with GQ magazine that she met Beyonce at a party in December 2017, where an unnamed actress bit the Grammy-winning superstar and walked off.

The story was widely shared on social media and has sparked speculation as to who bit Beyonce.

Dunham has joined fellow actresses Sara Foster and Sanaa Lathan in denying they were responsible.

The Girls creator posted on Twitter: "Woke up with this thought: having to deny biting anyone as an adult is its own special hell/not the reality I was hoping to inhabit."

Earlier, she had asked for someone to explain to her mother "why anyone THINKS I bit Beyonce?".

Dunham added: "She seems mad and also weirdly doubtful of me."

Lathan wrote on Twitter earlier this week: "Y'all are funny.

"Under no circumstances did I bite Beyonce and if I did it would've been a love bite."

Haddish told GQ that Beyonce went over to her husband Jay Z after being bitten and told him what had happened.

They are then said to have disappeared to the back of the room.

Haddish said she asked Beyonce what happened and told her she was ready to "beat somebody's a*** at your party".

The Single Ladies singer is said to have replied: ""Tiffany, no. Don't do that. That b**** is on drugs. She not even drunk.

"The b**** is on drugs. She not like that all the time. Just chill."

A representative for Beyonce told GQ that they did not know anything about the incident.

In November last year, Dunham apologised for supporting a writer on her TV show after he was accused of sexually assaulting an actress.

She said that the allegation levelled at Murray Millar was "one of the 3 per cent of assault cases that are misreported every year".

Her remarks came despite previously tweeting: "Things women do lie about: what they ate for lunch. Things women don't lie about: rape."
