Rockstar continues to have zero reason to make GTA VI, as they promise Red Dead Redemption II won’t be delayed again.

Grand Theft Auto V is already the best-selling video game of all-time, that isn’t called Minecraft or Tetris, but what’s so amazing about its success is that it still hasn’t peaked.
The game was first released on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in 2013, and on the current gen consoles in 2014, and yet last December was GTA Online’s best month ever in terms of the number of players – in large part thanks to the release of The Doomsday Heist update.
GTA V sold over 15 million sales in 2017 as a whole, which means it outsold most other new releases that year – such as the 7 million of Star Wars: Battlefront II and the 9 million of Super Mario Odyssey.
The news comes as Rockstar owners Take-Two Interactive reported their financial results, where they revealed that GTA Online was still their biggest source of income.
All of which means there’s less reason than ever for Rockstar to be work on a new GTA. And while it seems reasonable to imagine they’re probably researching ideas there’s little reason to expect an announcement until GTA V’s sales figure start to dip.
It seems to have been a good year for Take-Two in general, with their controversial sports game NBA 2K18 selling 8 million copies and microtransaction revenues up 30% from last year.
The game’s controversial because it has arguably the most cynical use of microtransactions in any current video game, although given it’s a basketball sim its issues have gone under the radar of most UK gamers.
Although, as you can see, as much as American gamers have complained it hasn’t stopped them spending money.

When speaking to investors, Take-Two promised that, despite it happening twice already, Red Dead Redemption II would not be delayed again and will definitely be out on October 26.
They also hinted at a new ‘highly anticipated new title’ to be announced shortly, which seems most likely to be Borderlands 3 – or possibly a new BioShock.
When the new game will be announced is not clear, but sometime around E3 in June seems a good bet.
