Game Awards 2018 COUNTDOWN Start Time: Avengers, Crash Team Racing, Dragon Age 4 and leaks (Pic: DS)
The Game Awards is due to go live this December for its annual celebration of all things amazing in the world of games.
In a tweet published earlier this week, Geoff Keighley (presenter and driving force behind the massive show) announced there would be no less than TEN new game announcements at the show.
Whilst we already know what some of those are likely to be – it's confirmed that Obsidian Entertainment is going to show the newest RPG its been working on, for example – there are still many mysteries around the announcements.
There are plenty of hints and rumours knocking around, though, so let's look at a few of those now.

The Game Awards 2018 – What we already know
• Avengers Project
First up, a big one: The Russo Brothers are due to present something at the show. Last week, The Game Awards account tweeted:
"Many great presenters will join us next Thursday night for #TheGameAwards. We're excited to welcome @russo_brothers, directors of Avengers, to #TheGameAwards"
This seems to suggest Square Enix's highly-anticipated Avengers game may finally be revealed… possibly alongside the first trailer for Avengers 4.
• Obsidian RPG
The newest member of the Microsoft Studios family – Obsidian Entertainment – is going to show the newest RPG its been working on.
“Next Thursday, don't miss the global announcement and reveal of the new RPG from @obsidian and @privatedivision live at #TheGameAwards” tweeted the official TGA account earlier this week.
• Crash Team Racing Remaster
Various leaks and reports (particularly a tell-all report from Eurogamer) hint that a Crash Team Racing remake will be getting announced at the show – and that's no surprise really, especially considering the success of the N. Sane trilogy.
• Far Cry – 'Fallout'
We've seen Ubisoft tease a new Far Cry title via its official Far Cry Twitter account – we expect to hear more about the game tonight.

The Game Awards 2018 – What we're expecting
• Alien: Blackout
Last weekend, it was revealed that 20th Century Fox had applied for a new trademark for an unannounced video game called Alien: Blackout. Twitter accounts for @AlienBlackout and @Alien_Blackout were also created back in September, not that anyone would have noticed at the time – but it all comes together to suggest a new Alien game is in the works.
• Titanfall 3
We already know that something is coming next year in the Titanfall franchise, so an announcement or tease here is likely, too.
• Dragon Age
BioWare boss Casey Hudson dropped a new update on the developer's official site this week, disclosing a little bit more information about the future of the Dragon Age brand.
"If youve been following these blogs, or myself and Mark Darrah on Twitter, you know were also working on some secret Dragon Age stuff," Hudson writes in the update. "Dragon Age is an incredibly important franchise in our studio, and were excited to continue its legacy. Look for more on this in the coming month (though I wont tell you where to look…)"
The timing seems right for a Game Awards reveal, don't you think?

• Metroid Prime 4
After a teaser for the game before the Nintendo Switch even launched, there has been nothing but silence on this highly-anticipated sequel. There seems to be a lot of small hints online that something is brewing though: Direct Feed Games, Spawn Wave and Jon Cartwright are all suggesting something could be up with cryptic tweets.
Last year we saw Nintendo announce Bayonetta 3 at the show, so we know the company isn't averse to dropping big announcements here.
We also saw a Metroid Trilogy leak yesterday, too, so everything seems primed for the series to make a return
• Metal Gear Solid
This week, Konami registered the trademark for Metal Gear Solid in Europe – this could be innocuous, the publisher just keeping its rights to the name alive in the region, or it could mean we're going to see the much-maligned developer take on the franchise without visionary director Hideo Kojima at the helm.
Whether that means we may see a new game entirely at the show or a remake of the PSOne classic remains to be seen.
• Mortal Kombat XI
Rumours these past few weeks have suggested that Mortal Kombat 11 could be one of the 10 new PS4, Xbox or Nintendo Switch games confirmed to be shown off at the Game Awards 2018 later this week.
That particular rumour mill went into overdrive on the weekend when a huge infodump for the game was dropped on 4chan.
It's worth taking anything with a massive grain of salt, but it wouldn't be the first time we've seen information dumped onto 4Chan that hasn't turned out to be correct. You can read more about Mortal Kombat 11 here.

The Game Awards 2018 – What not expecting
• Rocksteady DC game
Well-known games journalist Jason Schrier has been talking about the highly-rumored, never-revealed DC Rocksteady game this week, suggesting a reveal is (finally!) on the cards. Three years on from Arkham Knight, it's about time we heard what the developer has been readying behind the scenes, right?
Well, not really. "Looking forward to #TheGameAwards this year!" tweets Rocksteady director, Sefton Hill. "Were still hard at work in our development bunker so dont expect an announcement from @Rocksteadygames. When its ready to show, youll be the first to know. Spoiler: its not Superman"
We're sure we'll hear more soon.
• Cyberpunk 2077
Bad news, Cyberpunk 2077 fans – you're not going to get any more information about the game this week.
Developer CD Projekt Red has announced that it won't be showing off its highly-anticipated RPG at The Game Awards 2018 – though we are expecting to see a massive 10 new game announcements at the show.
"We're looking forward to seeing all the reveals and announcements during this year's @thegameawards," writes Marcin Momot, the community lead for CD Projekt Red on Twitter. "However we're not going to be showing anything there ourselves. Well share more details about @cyberpunkgame when were ready."
• Warner Bros Montreal
Warner Bros Montreal is rumoured to be working on a Batman game (in theory, the one that Rocksteady aren't?) and even though we don't know what the developer is working on, we do know they won't be at the show, as per their tweet. We may not be seeing what they're working on, but we do know an assistant producer at the studio has been seen wearing a Court of Owls T-shirt. Hmm.
• The Last of Us II
Naughty Dog has revealed it will not be attending the Game Awards 2018, so don't expect to hear anything more about The Last of Us II.
"Were looking forward to celebrating a year of incredible games at #TheGameAwards this Thursday, however, we wont have anything new to share from The Last of Us Part II" the studio tweeted. "Were hard at work and looking forward to revealing more when the time is right!"
