EPIC/NINTENDO

Fortnite Nintendo Switch release CONFIRMED? Is Battle Royale coming to Nintendo's console?

More evidence is mounting that Epic Games could be looking to bring Fortnite to Nintendo Switch later this year.

Industry insider and renowned leaker Marcus Sellars has poured fuel on the fire by tweeting to his followers: "Fortnite = Nintendo Switch."

But while Sellars track record with 'leaks' is patchy at best, his more recent suggestion that Call of Duty 2018 would be Black Ops 4 was eventually verified by Eurogamer's famous 'sources'.

So while unverified, Sellars could still be onto something.

That's especially true when you consider that in the past Epic Games has indicated their intention to bring the game to the Nintendo hybrid at some point in the future.

Some weeks back Donald Mustard, Worldwide Creative Director of Epic Games, recently replied to a tweet asking him whether he's interested in bringing the game to Nintendo's newest console.

"Yes. Yes I am," he stated. "Hopefully we do that at some point!"

It'd make sense for Epic to bring the game to the hybrid handheld/home console.

Nintendo forecasts that it'll sell 17 million units by the end of April this year – considering Fortnite Battle Royale is a free-to-play game, adding even a small portion of that player base to the game's audience would be a big win for the company.

We're already seeing games run on Epic's Unreal Engine 4 hit the Switch, so we imagine it won't be too hard for the company to port the game to the console – and we imagine the idea of playing a Battle Royale game on the go will make some fans of the game very happy, too.

We're seeing Epic put a lot of support into the game, and it's even starting to impact how the company treats other titles in its roster too (the publisher's MOBA-inspired Paragon is being rethought in the wake of Fortnite's success), so seeing the game thrive on other platforms is only going to be a good thing for the company and gamers alike.

In the more immediate future though, the priority for Epic Games is likely focussed on the launch of the Season 3 Battle Pass on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
