Fortnite downtime: When will Fortnite servers be down? How long are servers down?

As highlighted earlier in the week, the normal Tuesday Fortnite update was pushed back until today, Thursday 23rd August.

It won't be a small update either. Why? Well given the last major Fortnite update came two weeks ago, it should mean that today's 5.3 Patch Notes should be fairly extensive and packed with new features, skins and much more.

Epic Games confirmed late last night that the game servers would be going offline for the new update, telling fans:

"Shake it up with a new item coming to Battle Royale in Patch v5.30. Downtime starts tomorrow, August 23 at 4 AM ET (0800 GMT)."

How long is Fortnite downtime today?

Fortnite will likely be offline for roughly two hours this morning as Epic Games look to roll out the latest update for the game.

This will impact both Battle Royale and Save the World players.

As mentioned, the plan is for servers to go offline at 8am GMT (4am ET) this morning, which is actually 9am BST for anyone in the UK.

It's not, however, uncommon for players to start being booted from the game up to 20 minutes before the servers are switched off.

It's also worth noting that whilst these numbered updates usually last around two hours, it's possible, if the game hits a snag with a new bug – or that PSN network issue persists – that it could take longer.

We would suspect that the game should hopefully be back online by around 11am – 12pm BST.

The update, as mentioned, should introduce a slew of new features and cosmetics for the game.

But, whilst a lot of this is – highly likely speculation – we do know that there is one new item guaranteed.

A new in-game message following Wednesday's Fortnite Shop Update has confirmed that there's a brand new item coming to Battle Royale on Thursday; Rift-To-Go!

This new item ostensibly allows you to carry around your own portal rift to use as you please. Here's what the in-game message reads:

"Are you a player on the go? Carry an escape plan in your back pocket with a new item making its way to Battle Royale!"

It's possible that leading up to the release of the games new update that we get a few further pieces of info or teasers from the Fortnite Battle Royale team, so stay tuned for details over the course of the next 24 hours.

In addition to everything mentioned above, there's also going to be the usual array of bug fixes for the game and while we can't say for certain which bugs will be fixed, we have a solid idea based on Epic's Fortnite Trello board.

Keep reading to take a look at some of the main bugs which the Trello board has marked as 'fixed in the next release' at the time of writing.

This isn't to say they'll definitely be included in the next patch. But there's a pretty decent chance if Epic are looking to clear some of the most obvious bugs in the game.

Battle Royale 'fixed' Issues:

  • The neck for the Whiteout Outfit is not appearing.
  • Trap elimination Challenge is not granting credit when knocking out players

Save the World 'fixed' Issues:

  • Placeholder boxes appear in quest reward locations
  • AMD Card crash for drivers later than 18.3.3 but earlier than 18.7.1
  • Seismic Impact's tooltip shows "0" damage
  • Rocket Launcher ADS covers majority of the player's screen

Mobile 'fixed' Issues:

  • iOS players are occasionally unable to build

Stay tuned for more details on the games next big update, presumably, later today…
