Just when you think China cant get any shadier, they go and ban the hit cartoon series “Peppa Pig.”

According to British news site The Independent, China announced its plan to ban any material relating to the cartoon this week. The communist superpower will censor it from the public because its often associated with the “shehuiren” group, which is an anti-establishment subculture in China that often uses “Peppa Pig” as an ironic symbol of its “gangster” attitude.

Its Monday and you know what that means… an all new Peppasode premiere on @Nickelodeon! Tune in at 9am (EDT) for an oinktastic morning! #PeppaPigpic.twitter.com/Mv8LOGmfx1

According to Chinese publication Global Times, the “shehuiren” are those “who run counter to the mainstream value and are usually poorly educated with no stable job. They are unruly slackers roaming around and the antithesis of the young generation the (ruling Communist) Party tries to cultivate.”

So China is taking it away from everybody.

The Chinese government has reportedly gotten rid of searchable online content and hashtags like #PeppaPig to prevent the spread of gangster sentiments.

I wake up glad to be an American every single day, but this serves as an easy reminder that this is the greatest country on earth. While other places like China struggle to keep their people away from light, truth, and harmless cartoons, Ill be here cranking up the volume way up when “Peppa Pig” comes on. Just because I can.
