Cyberpunk 2077 targeting consoles as first class platforms says dev (Pic: Namco Bandai)

Cyberpunk 2077 continues to be one of the most talked about upcoming video games and those conversations will only become more frequent as we approach its long-awaited launch next spring.

However, right now theres plenty of discussion surrounding the open world RPGs console release, whether Cyberpunk 2077 will be “cross-gen” and how well these versions will stack up against their PC counterparts.

In a recent interview with CD Projekt Red UI Director, Alvin Liu, Wccftech (via Techradar) asked how Cyberpunk 2077 is being optimised for these platforms as well as low-end PCs.

“We have a very custom engine, the RED Engine,” Liu explains. Were targeting consoles as first class platforms and it looks amazing there. So obviously, if you spent, you know, $2,000 building your PC rig, its going to look better on that. But the graphics are quite amazing for what youre going to get from Cyberpunk 2077 on consoles and low-end PCs.”

This should honestly come as no surprise. With PCs far more customisable than consoles, thats where youll always find the best performance. However, console players can be assured that their experience with Cyberpunk 2077 wont be some kind of subpar downgrade.

In a recent financial results meeting for the company its CEO and president, Adam Kiciński, said “if there is an opportunity for [CD Projekt Red] to launch Cyberpunk for another generation, we would want to do this probably" (via USgamer).

It seems very likely that Cyberpunk will make the leap to PS5 and Project Scarlett but until we know more about those systems, CDPR isnt likely to make an announcement.

Microsoft hasnt given an exact launch date for its next Xbox, currently codenamed “Project Scralett”. During its E3 2019 press conference the platform holder revealed some early details including preliminary specs and features, though only gave a “Holiday 2020” launch window.
