When Daniel Craig announced he will be stepping down as James Bond, fans began to speculate who will be the next 007.
For a long time James Norton was favourite to take the Bond title, then Tom Hardy overtook the Happy Valley star. Since then, pretty much every actor has been brought up in conversation as to whether or not they could be the next person to step into Craig’s shoes.
Okay, maybe not every actor, that might be an exaggeration, but the likes of Harry Styles, Danny Boyle, Daniel Kaluuya, Chris Hemsworth, Hugh Jackman, Tyla Carr and even Meghan Markle were all at some point in the running to be the next Bond – you get the point.
Many debates have been had about whether or not James Bond should be played by a woman (Jamie Bond?) and if the role should also be played by a black actor.
Idris Elba has recently been rumoured to be on the list of the next potential Bonds, however in a conversation with Reggie Yates, actor Noel Clarke believes the character will be played by a white actor for the next seven years and then Star Wars’ John Boyega will take the role.
Speaking on Talk Stew, the 42-year-old said: ‘I think John Boyega could be James Bond. Will be James Bond.’
Shocked at the comment, Reggie replied: ‘Before Idris?’
Clarke continued: ‘Idris won’t get it, here’s what will happen. I don’t think they’re ready for a black Bond.
‘So there will be another white guy, that guy will do six / seven years, and then John Boyega will be about the right age and so John will be the next one.’
Doubting his comment the 34-year-old presenter asked: ‘Do you think there ever will be a black Bond?’
More: James Bond
To which Clarke said: ‘Yeah his name is John Boyega.’
He seemed pretty certain that the 25-year-old will play James Bond in the next decade, but as to who will take the role in 2019, we’ll have to head back to the rumour mill.
