Call of Duty Black Ops 4 CONFIRMED: 2018 Release Date and Blizzard BattleNet news released

Call of Duty Black Ops 4 has been announced by Activision.

The game will be revealed to the community on May 17th at a reveal event and will be released globally on October 12th for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

The Call of Duty website also now lets you link Blizzard http://Battle.net accounts, suggesting CoD could become available for PC on http://Battle.net. It's worth noting that Destiny 2 also came to Battle.net last year.

Rumours have also been rife lately that Activision could be looking to release Call of Duty Black Ops 4 on the Nintendo Switch, however, today's announcement doesn't appear to have confirmed any such release on Nintendo's platform.

Playing devil's advocate, the game could be a surprise announcement as part of tonights March 2018 Nintendo Direct, however, right now, it seems more likely that the new game from Treyarch simply isn't coming to Switch.

We'll find out later we guess.

And although we've only learnt a few cursory details about the game today, it's possible more clues about the game could be hiding in plain sight in Call of Duty Black Ops 3.

That's because earlier this week Treyarch – quite out of the blue – updated the previous Black Ops title (Black Ops 3), released way back in 2015, with a whole heap of updates and it could be hiding some secrets.

The new update for the game, [Update 1.27] introduced the popular Infected game mode, and a new map in the form of a snow version of the Redwood map.

However, what is interesting is that just before the Black Ops III announcement, Black Ops II was also updated to have Snapchat QR codes in some of the multiplayer maps.

Following these QR codes lead players to a viral marketing campaign that was spread across various social platforms, teasing bytes of information about the new game ahead of its announcement.

Fans are currently scouring the new snowy Redwood map for hints at something nodding towards Black Ops 4 (or IIII), and they're also combing through the campaign to see what's different there.

A reddit thread is compiling all the differences so far, and what they could mean, but nothing solid has been uncovered just yet. Although for some reason, the license plates on trucks are now different and apparently correspond to the date that David "Section" Mason joined the military.

We're keeping our eye on the progress of this intel-finding mission, and we'll keep you updated as soon as anything is uncovered.

News and rumours surrounding the announcement of Call of Duty Black Ops 4 began to circle earlier this week when a trusted Call of Duty-based website, CharlieIntel, recieved anonymous tips from an employee claiming they're from GameStop, showing new listings of various Black Ops 4 merchandise listed in the retailer's database.

According to the tipster, there are listings in the GameStop system for lanyards, as well as various other listings for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 related clothing.

Thought the listings currently say that there are 0 of each item in stock, if this leak is real then it's clear GameStop is starting to stock up its stores ahead of the game's reveal and eventual release.

This was then followed by news of NBA superstar James Harden seemingly wearing a snapback, which was 'rumoured' to be sporting the new Black Ops 4 logo.

As seen at the link, the hat's logo has plenty of similarities with the logo for Call of Duty: Black Ops III – though it's interesting to note the design has gone for the 'IIII' aesthetic, rather than the roman numeral 'IV' which we were expecting.
