A scathing tweet in which Donald Trump labelled Ted Cruz "all talk, no action" will be displayed on a billboard in Texas when the president joins the senator at a rally.
Mr Trump announced he would pick Texas' biggest stadium to hold an event for Senator Ted Cruz in October, tweeting: "Ted has my complete and total Endorsement."
But a group of fundraisers is looking to dig up the rivalry between the pair which began during the 2016 presidential election campaign, by displaying a tweet from the president in which he slates the Texan representative.
In the 2016 tweet, Mr Trump wrote: "Why would the people of Texas support Ted Cruz when he has accomplished absolutely nothing for them. He is another all talk, no action pol!"
A crowdfunding page was set up by USA Latinx, a group which focuses on getting Latin candidates into office.
David Hogg, a survivor of the Parkland School shooting in Florida, is also backing the billboards, and confirmed the project would be going ahead.
The GoFundMe page explained: "President Donald Trump will be campaigning to help Sen. Ted Cruz win his re-election. A rally is being planned, according to Trump 'at the biggest stadium in Texas'.
"We are planning to display the presidents own words about Cruz from 2016 on a mobile billboard, to remind Texans of the truth.
"This is a joint effort initiated by Antonio Arellano in collaboration with Claude Taylor and David Hogg. The money raised by this account will go towards funding the mobile billboard to maximise visibility and impact."
The page met its original target of $6,000 (£4,600), and reached $9,700 (£7,500) before it stopped taking donations.
Many people asked to donate money after the page closed, with some suggesting extra funds should go to a second billboard, or a television advert.

It comes after a billboard calling Mr Trump "our leader the idiot" was taken down outside New Jersey after causing controversy.
A spokesman for Union Township said the billboard was removed by the company that owns the space. It is understood the board was put up by an activist to promote a film.
