Everything is back to normal

DICE has rolled back changes it made to try and make Battlefield V more newbie friendly and opponents harder to kill.

Earth Defense Force 5Game review: Earth Defense Force 5 really hates bugs

Despite a mostly positive critical reception Battlefield V has not enjoyed a particularly happy launch. Thanks to Black Friday it ended up being discounted almost immediately and online numbers for people playing, and watching, the game appear to be much lower than usual.

But its also been mired in controversy, with fans unhappy at everything from the inclusion of female avatars to changes to the TTK (time to kill) balance.

TTK determines how quickly you kill an enemy, from needing only one or two good shots to turning them into boss battle style bullet sponges.

When the game launched the settings was as normal but recently DICE changed the TTK so that it took longer to kill opponents in multiplayer – which they thought would make the game more accessible for new players.

The logic is reasonable enough but DICE failed to consult with their existing fanbase, who reacted angrily to the changes and have forced DICE to change things back.

At first DICE created a separate sever playlist called Conquest Core, which used the old settings, but fans werent satisfied and claimed it was splitting the community.

Our intent with the TTK changes was to see if we could evolve the Battlefield V experience and make it more enjoyable for new players, whilst also making sure the Battlefield vets have a choice with a more core experience suiting their preferred playstyle, said DICE in a new blog.

Clearly we didnt get it right. Veteran players didnt ask for the change, but as game developers, we took it upon ourselves to make those changes based on extensive data and deliberation. It truthfully wasnt an easy decision for us.

This seems to have sated most fans, although what itll do for Battlefield Vs player numbers remains to be seen.
