The family of the world famous DJ Avicii is speaking out for the first time since his sudden death late last week.
Avicii, a Swedish national whose real name is Tim Bergling, was found dead in his hotel room in Muscat, Oman on Friday. He was reportedly on vacation in the area but not much is known about the cause of his death.
And while his family has requested privacy since Aviciis death, the DJs parents, two sisters, and brother arrived in Oman on Monday to receive postmortem information and to bring his body back to their home country.
They released a statement shortly after arriving in Oman.
In full, it reads:
We would like to thank you for the support and the loving words about our son and brother. We are so grateful for everyone who loved Tims music and have precious memories of his songs.
Thank you for all the initiatives taken to honor Tim, with public gatherings, church bells ringing out his music, tributes at Coachella and moments of silence around the world.
We are grateful for the privacy during this difficult time. Our wish is that it continues that way.
With love,
The Tim Bergling Family
Very few details relating to Aviciis death have been released, however the Omani police ruled out any criminal suspicion after carrying out two postmortem inspections.
“Two postmortems were carried out … and we can confirm that there is no criminal suspicion in the death,” the Royal Omani police told CNN on Monday. They added that Aviciis family is “completely devastated,” by the loss.
