An Adele superfan, who had been visited by her idol in 2016, died at the age of 14 following a brave battle with serious illness.
The singer had been touched by teenager Rebecca Gibney’s story, who battled with illnesses including cerebral palsy and epilepsy, and was bedridden, and she visited the young teen at her home in Ireland last year during her tour.
She surprised the then 12-year-old, who would listen to Adele’s music all day and night, by turning up at her home unannounced.
But sadly, Rebecca, who defied the odds to live into her teens, passed away over Christmas, and her mum Tracy paid tribute to the little girl who brought ‘so much joy and love’.
Speaking to the Irish News, her mum said: ‘She was my world; she was Joanna’s world, we would have kept her with us forever, only it wouldn’t have been fair on Rebecca.
‘Everyone who met her loved her. We were delighted when Adele called to our house. Rebecca listened to her music all day and at night when I put her to bed I had to put Adele on for her, you could see it made her happy.’
She added: ‘She brought so much love and joy to our home. We’ll miss her every day, she was a little angel’.
The 14-year-old had been seriously ill for two weeks before her death.
The singer paid a visit to her home in 2016 when she was playing the Belfast’s arena after Tracy launched a petition to get a visit from the singer.
She also contacted Adele’s management and garnered support on Twitter before making Rebecca’s dream come true when the star turned up in person.
