Bollywood actress Sridevi’s body has finally arrived back in Mumbai to an outpouring of grief from fans.
Dubai authorities released the body after carrying out further investigations and she was flown back to India on Tuesday.
Sridevi was met with hoards of fans lining the streets in tribute to the late star, who died from accidental drowning on Saturday. The funeral is reportedly set to take place later today.
The body is currently at the Celebration Sports Club near her home.
Police were deployed to be stationed outside her house and along the procession route to the Vile Parle Seva Samai crematorium where the body will be taken.
Sridevi’s colleagues, fellow actors and actresses, and her family arrived to pay tribute ahead of the funeral at the ‘condolence meet’, which began at 9.30am.
The superstar was confirmed dead on Saturday evening, but reports earlier had revealed how Sredevi, who was in Dubai for her nephew’s wedding, was discovered in the bath by her husband, film producer Boney Kapoor.
It has been claimed that Kapoor, who had left Dubai for Mumbai earlier in the week but returned to the city for dinner on Saturday evening, woke Sridevi up around 5.30 pm and the couple chatted for around 15 minutes before Sridevi went to the bathroom to prepare for the evening ahead.
When she didn’t come out for some time, Kapoor knocked and then forced open the door to see the actor ‘lying motionless in a bathtub full of water’, according to the Khaleej Times.
‘He tried to revive her and when he could not, he called a friend of his. After that, he informed the police at 9pm,’ the report says, quoting a source.
Sridevi’s death certificate was released Monday confirming accidental drowning as the cause of death.
