Katy Perry feared backlash if she defended Dr Luke (Picture: Getty)

Katy Perry said she was afraid of possible backlash if she supported Dr Luke, according to newly released documents relating to the Kesha rape case.

Kesha, whose full name is Kesha Rose Sebert, sued Dr Luke (Lukasz Gottwald) in 2014 over claims that he drugged and sexually assaulted her. Dr Luke denied the accusations and in a June court ruling, Dr Lukes legal team claimed Kesha smeared him in texts to Lady Gaga, claiming that he raped Katy Perry.

Kesha has since dropped the claim that he raped her after a party with the Hilton sisters in 2005, however Dr Lukes defamation case against her remains active.

The text message exchange from 2016 between Kesha and Lady Gaga (Stefani Angelina Germanotta) as well as Katy Perrys subsequent testimony became public on Thursday.

According to court documents obtained by The Blast, Perry was questioned about her decision to stop working with Luke after Keshas allegations became public.

She said: I felt pressured [to come out and support Kesha], but I also knew both of them and a lot of people did not. So it was easy for them to be dis-attached and support an idea rather than an actual instance.

People were generally very angry at me for not saying anything.

She went on to talk about Lukes reputation and how it changed after the allegations were made public.

The association with working with Luke was a negative at the time and still is because of that incident.

She was then asked if that was a result of Keshas public allegation and press support, to which she responded, Yes.

The singer added: I want to stay out of it because I know them both and I empathise with both of them and obviously its a horrible situation for both of them. And the only two people that know what really went on are those two people.

Perry went on to say that she told Dr Luke she would not be working with him on her album Witness because she thought that in doing so, it would appear that she was picking a side in the lawsuit.

They thing I was raped and I was not, Perry said.

She was afraid of getting attacked by people online.

I would be the one woman that is against women and Im not against women, but I believe in innocent until proven guilty and I believe in justice.

Dr Luke is still pursuing a defamation case against Kesha, and a part of his case, he is seeking $10.2million (£7.7million) in earnings he lost from not working with Katy.
