Iain Lee threatened to quit his radio show live on air, claiming hed leave if he wasnt up to my eyeballs in debt.

The 45-year-old was on his Talk Radio show The Late Night Alternative on Monday night with Katherine Boyle when he branded the show shit and vibeless.

After Katherine discussed complaints about a Christmas fairground, Iain said: Theres no vibe to this show at all. This show is vibeless. Weve got no calls, no vibe. 24 minutes in and I dont know where to take it.

No-ones phoning in. Ive been so close recently to quitting this job. Just because I feel that I am repeating the same old shit that weve been doing for years, and its not going anywhere.

Were getting the same old callers, which is great [that] you guys call in, but you know, it feels like the same handful of people – weve got Alan, weve got Nigel, weve got Alistair, the same five, six people have been calling in for three years. Which is great.

But I feel I have extracted as much as I can from that, from them. I dont feel like were doing anything different or unique or new. To all the other phone-in shows on radio stations… this doesnt fit in with anything.

The former Im A Celebrity campmate continued: I swear to god, if I wasnt up to my eyeballs in debt and didnt have to pay a huge amount of money every month for my divorce and my house, I would quit. It feels like were just treading water. Ive run out of ideas.

This cant be fun for the listener, our listening figures are the lowest they have ever been.

So the difference that Im trying to do is obviously not working so we might as well let someone else come in.

Following the show, Iain appeared to lash out at a number of people on Twitter, before saying: Sorting. Having a tough day. These pills are driving me nuts. You lot deserve better than to see me chucking the C bomb around. Twitter being taken off phone. Peace and love.

Iain addressed his rant on last nights show, singing: Is it gonna be the second night he has a breakdown on air and starts to cry and moan cause his life is so shit, I dont think so because he took his pills today, everything is feeling oh so gay, I mean gay in the old fashioned way, not queer.

More: Mental health

Lee, who is going through a divorce from his wife, recently told his Twitter followers that he was struggling after coming off anti-depressants.

He tweeted: Coming off anti-depressants. Sweet lord. Its hard. Harder than coming off a coke binge. Much harder. More emotional. Longer. Drawn out. So fucking dark.

Iain has spoken openly about his battle with depression, revealing he began going to therapy again after leaving the jungle last year.
