Xbox One News SHOCK: Microsoft Xbox One X couldn't stop this bad news in 2018 (Pic: MICROSOFT)

Microsoft has had a good 2018.

Towards the end of 2017, the company released the Xbox One X and since then, Microsoft's fortunes have been changing. Not only has the company seen an uptake in sales since the most powerful console on the market launched, it's also seen a great E3 and positive rumours about its work on Xbox Scarlett.

There is a bit of bad news for the company, though, as Xbox One sales fail to live up to the phenomenal record set by the Xbox 360 last generation.

“October 2018 is the 60th month of the Xbox One being on sale. In the latest month the gap grew in favour of the Xbox 360 by 306,648 units,” notes sales analyst site VGChartz.

If you imagine the 360 and the Xbox One were on sale at the same time, you can see the difference in how the two consoles are selling.

“In the last 12 months, the Xbox 360 has grown its lead by 3.49 million units. The Xbox 360 currently leads by 5.26 million," notes VGChartz. That's a lot of ground for Xbox One to cover if it wants to catch up with it's predecessor.

“Both consoles launched in November. The Xbox 360 launched in November 2005, while the Xbox One launched in November 2013.

“The Xbox One has sold 39.51 million units, while its predecessor the Xbox 360 sold 44.77 million units.”

Whilst the numbers of hardware sales may be down (you can likely attribute that to the PS4 having an almost three-to-one sales advantage over the Xbox One so far this generation), Microsoft is still making significant revenue elsewhere.

And according to the latest figures released by the publishing giant itself, Microsoft now has at least 57 million subscribers to Xbox Live.

This was paired with the news that gaming revenue exceeded $10 billion during the fiscal 2018 year, which ended June 30.

So whilst hardware sales may be down, at least 2018 has been a record year for the company, with revenue reported to have grown over 14%, reaching a massive $110 billion.

This comes after Microsoft introduced the world to the Xbox One's Winter of Arcade.

The initiative – which celebrates indie games and very much gives them their time in the spotlight – first started as the Summer of Arcade (Winter of Arcade in the southern hemisphere) back on the Xbox 360 in 2008.

High profile indie games on the Xbox platform debuted via the annual feature: Castle Crashers, Trials HD, Limbo, Bastion, Braid, Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 and more all released as part of the Summer of Arcade.

Given that those games are all considered classics now, this 2018 rebirth of this promotion is good news for fans of high-quality games.

Microsoft is also encouraging players to pick up the amazing new set of games thanks to a £4.39/$5 gift card that'll be credited to your account for each game you purchase through the Xbox or Microsoft Store Online

The titles will be able for purchase on Microsoft Store Online and Xbox One through ID@Xbox, and four of the titles will be available via Xbox Games Pass.

This is everything you'll be able to nab:
