Epic Games has announced the launch of its first ‘shooting test’ as it works to improve the shooting accuracy in Fortnite Battle Royale.
It will be the first of multiple shooting tests aimed at finding the best solution to the current problems players are facing during gameplay.
The company has been praised for constantly improving the game and listening to feedback from the ever-growing fanbase.
As well as the introduction of new items and weapons, a recent update saw various new locations of interest added to the Battle Royale map.
What is the Fortnite shooting test?
Epic Games has turned its focus towards improving the combat and weapon accuracy in Fortnite, something the company outlined as a place for improvement last year.
In a blog post Lead Designer Eric Williamson explained the aims of the process –
- Pistol sniping at long range should not be possible
- Our weapons should have characteristics that encourage a wide range of engagements based on: distance to target, target type, ammo availability
The developers have produced prototypes for two potential solutions that they plan to test out, which is First-Shot Accuracy and Perfect Accuracy + Recoil.

The aim is to run multiple tests and collect data and feedback to determine the best way to move forward with the shooting accuracy in Fortnite Battle Royale.
Epic Games announced on Twitter that it is currently carrying it Shooting test #1 which is the first-shot accuracy prototype.
They are encouraging players to test the new shooting settings and give feedback so that they can continue to improve the gameplay.
Epic Games confirmed that ‘wins and other stats will count while playing this mode’ and that their intent is to run multiple shooting tests.
What the first-shot accuracy means
Weapons now have first-shot accuracy, indicated by a red glow on the reticle.
It is applied when:
Standing still
Aiming (not hip-firing)
Aim spread is at peak accuracy (Basically, if you haven’t fired recently. It is different per weapon)
Headshot critical hits have been reduced
Shotguns are now 150% damage (was 250%).
All other weapons with headshot crits are now 200% damage (was 250%).
Damage fall-off has been introduced for some weapons
Damage applies at 100% to a fixed range.
Fall-off begins at different ranges (depending on the weapon), and decreases to 70% damage.
Sniper Rifles, Rocket/Grenade Launchers, and Shotguns are unaffected.
Other balance adjustments
Semi-Auto Sniper has had its damage increased to 75/78 (from 63/66).
Scoped Assault Rifle has had its damage increased to 25/26 (from 23/24).
+2 Base damage to all SMGs.
