Original Story – The last twelve months have been difficult for Bethesda, developer of such huge franchises as Fallout, the Elder Scrolls and upcoming sci-fi game Starfield.
Fallout 76 was released in November 2018 as the next instalment in the hugely popular Fallout franchise. An online multiplayer game, Fallout 76 was heavily criticised by reviewers and consumers alike for its empty world, game breaking bugs and generally unfinished feel.
Since then, Bethesda released first-person shooter Rage 2. Whilst the developers hoped that the sequel to the 2010 original game would wow, it received mediocre scores at release and has hardly lit the gaming world on fire since.
Both Fallout 76 and Rage 2 were announced by Bethesda during smaller events in 2018, while bizarrely, their E3 2018 showcase focused more on the success of the company rather than on dedicating time to revealing new games.
Similarly, the 2017 E3 showcase known as Bethesda Land wasnt exactly a smash-hit either, with many fans considering it as something of a let-down.
This years E3 Bethesda showcase will begin on June 9th at 1.30 BST (if youre not in the UK you can watch the show at 17.30 PTD, 20.30 EDT or 2.30 CEST).
All things considered, Bethesda has a lot to prove at this years E3 conference. Fans are hoping for a line-up of upcoming games that will wow and entice, and many are demanding that the company pull out all the stops to make up for a couple of lacklustre years.
Perhaps adding solid release dates to games announced at last years show or introducing gameplay trailers to showcase just what Bethesda can do would elevate their conference and make it stand out.
And it seriously needs to stand out. When pitted against the likes of Microsoft and Nintendo, Bethesda needs to make some big headlines for the right reasons if they want to be heard above the crowd.
Starfield – Everything we know so far
At last years E3 conference a short clip featuring a far-off planet and a spaceship blasting off into hyperspace piqued the attention of fans.
This clip was an announcement trailer for Starfield, Bethesdas first new IP in 25 years. Although very short, the teaser was well executed and Starfield is certainly an enigmatic title with a great sci-fi vibe.
Todd Howard (executive producer of Bethesda Studios) has since revealed that Starfield has been in the works for nearly a decade, and that the game has moved out of pre-production and is now in a playable state.
During an interview with The Guardian Howard revealed that weve been talking about it for a decade. We started putting things on paper five, six years ago, and active development was from when we finished Fallout 4, so two and a half, three years.
The long development cycle is a good sign that Bethesda is taking their time with the game and working to craft something worthwhile before they showcase any more info.
Additionally, Bethesda Studios recently put out a job application for a voice designer to join their team. This voice designer will be sourcing dialogue performances for Bethesdas upcoming games including Starfield.
Sadly, Todd Howard has alluded that Starfield may be absent from this years E3 2019 conference, which suggests that Bethesda arent ready to show off what they have just yet.
But could this be a bluff? An image released on Bethesdas official Twitter account showed classic Bethesda characters looking up at a starry sky, hinting that Starfield might be showing up in some capacity afRead More – Source
