Red Dead Redemption 2, GTA 5 News Update: Incredible PS4 and Xbox news for Rockstar Games (Pic: Rockstar Games)
Rockstar Games can celebrate, if they haven't been already as it was confirmed this week by US Video Games Industry Analyst Matt Piscatella that two of their flagship titles were among the top performing games this generation.
Both GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption topped a list of the most successful titles in new results published by NPD analyst Piscatella.
Writing on Twitter Piscatella said:
"It's been a little while since I posted life to date Top 10's for the current systems, so let's check out the latest US Top 10 Titles by Platform in dollar sales (Physical & Digital for members of the DLP) from The NPD Group."
"First up, PlayStation 4 – Grand Theft Auto V is the best-selling game on PS4 life to date, while Red Dead Redemption 2 is currently ranked #2. Marvel's Spider-Man is the best-selling PS4 exclusive life to date in the US.
"Xbox One – Grand Theft Auto V is #1 on Xbox One, while 5 Call of Duty games rank among the Top 10 sellers in the US life to date."
It's worth noting as well that on Xbox One, Red Dead Redemption 2 came 5th.
News of these new sales figures come amid another content rich week for both games.
In Red Dead Redemption 2 Rockstar games added the Wild Animal Kills Challenge in Red Dead Online, with points awarded based on the size of the animal along with bonus points for prized and dangerous predators.
Offensive attacks against other players are disabled during the challenge, keeping the focus of this Free Roam Event squarely on the hunt.
Also new this week is a new Showdown Mode called Head For The Hills. As part of the mode the players take turns running to their safe house while opponents try to take them down along the way.
In addition, new players of A Land of Opportunities can earn a RDO$50 bonus for completing the first mission, Honor Among Horse Thieves. All players can earn a bonus RDO$75 for completing Kill Them, Each and Every One; and a bonus 10 Gold Bars for completing Destroyed by Grief.
As for GTA 5, there were yet more updates for the long-running GTA Online mode.
This week in GTA Online Rockstar Games have added Double Rewards on All Contact Missions Plus GTA$250k Nightclub Bonus, After Hours Unlocks and much more.
