CONFIRMED: Skeletor will not be making a cameo

Ubisoft has confirmed a series of very peculiar aesthetic changes that will remove references to gambling, sex, and violence.

Diablo III: Eternal CollectionGame review: Diablo III: Eternal Collection comes to Nintendo Switch

First person shooter Rainbow Six Siege is set to receive a number of cosmetic changes, in order to create a single version of the game that is suitable for all countries – including China.

The changes dont affect the gameplay but it will mean removing overt references to gambling, in the form of fruit machines; sexual content, in the form of pole dancer signs; and, most unlikely of all, violence.

Not only are bloodstains being removed from walls but a poster of a skull is being changed to someone with a face mask and sunglasses… even though this is an online shooter where youre constantly shooting other people.

At least Ubisoft has been upfront about the changes though, which were announced in a new blog where they explained the reason for the censorship was to ensure they only have to maintain a single build for the entire world.

By maintaining a single build, we are able to reduce the duplication of work on the development side, reads the blog. This will allow us to be more agile as a development team, and address issues more quickly.

That explanation does seem a little odd though given that the Chinese version is still going to be region-locked and have its own matchmaking, so nobody else will see that version anyway.

Although its not super clear from the blog, the implication is that violence, including blood, generated in gameplay will not be changed but it all seems very odd…
