PS Plus December 2018: Good news and bad news ahead of Sony December game line-up reveal (Pic: SONY)

There's a mixed bag of news for Sony players this week as they wait for more information about what games they'll be able to download as part of their PS Plus membership in December.

First up, the bad news: earlier this month, Sony was offering a deal that let players get a pretty significant discount on PS Plus memberships. The deal – which saw an annual subscription slashed to under £30 – was removed from sale today, and now the 12-month membership is back to costing £49.99 via the PlayStation Network store.

The good news, though, is that Geoff Keighley has announced that The Game Awards this year will feature a massive 10 new game announcements – with more known games getting updates.

Considering Sony and The Game Awards already has a great relationship (last year, an exclusive Death Stranding trailer was debuted at the show for example) this can only mean good news for PlayStation fans around the world.

Trending

Typically PlayStation announces their PS+ games on the last Wednesday of the month, which means we should find out the December selection on Wednesday, November 28.

In the past Sony has usually announced these titles at around 4.30pm BST in the UK, with the games officially going live on the PSN store next week on the first Tuesday of the month.

For reference, the first Tuesday in December will be Tuesday 4th.

Unlike November, though, there are no leaks just yet to suggest what games might be free in December, but it's quite plausible that we'll see something leaked between now and Wednesday, so stay tuned for updates in the meantime.

As for what games could be free, it's potluck. Sony does have good form with giving away some of their older PlayStation exclusives, but there's certainly no guarantee of seeing the likes of Killzone 3, The Order 1886, The Last of Us 2 Remastered or any of the past Uncharted releases.

What is PlayStation Plus?

For the sake of anyone who hasn't opted into Sony's incredible PlayStation Plus service at the dirt cheap price of £6.99 a month – Or £49.99 for the year / £19.99 for three months.

Here's what you get:

• Access to online multiplayer on your PlayStation 4
• Exclusive discounts at PlayStation Store
• Share Play – so your friends can play your games even if they don't own a copy themselves
• 10GB of cloud storage for your PS4 game saves

More important than any of that is the fact Sony give away 24 PS4 games a year, completely free. And on top of that, a whole host of PS3 and PS Vita games as well, just to sweeten the deal.

So, when you think about it, signing up to PlayStation Plus is a bit of a no-brainer, really.
