A man has been arrested after opening fire in the lobby of the Trump National Doral Golf Club early Friday morning, authorities say.
Chief Hernan Organvidez of the Doral Police Department said the police received word of an active shooter around 1:30 a.m.
When the police arrived on the scene, they found the man armed with a handgun. He had draped an American flag over the lobby counter and was “yelling and spewing some information” about Trump, but Organvidez did not provide more details on what exactly the man was saying.
They exchanged fire with the shooter and shot him multiple times in the lower extremities. The shooter is in custody and is currently being treated at the hospital for multiple gunshot wounds.
“Our officers responded with the assistance of Miami Dade,” Organvidez said. “They confronted the subject immediately upon arrival and exchanged fire with him.”
One officer received a non-fireram related injury and is in “good condition.” There were no other injuries sustained during the incident, which Organvidez said lasted no more than a couple of minutes.
Eric Trump thanked the Doral Police Department and the Miami Dade Police Department on Twitter for their work in stopping the shooting.
A huge thank you to the incredible men and women of the @DoralPolice Department and @MiamiDadePD. Every day they keep our community safe. We are very grateful to you!
