Kevin Spacey has been charged in connection with an allegation of indecent assault.
The Oscar-winning actor is accused of indecent assault and battery against an 18-year-old man at a restaurant in Nantucket, Massachusetts, more than two years ago.
Spacey is scheduled to appear in court on 7 January, district attorney Michael O'Keefe said.
A spokeswoman for the actor did not immediately respond to messages seeking comment.
The 59-year-old, whose full name is Kevin Spacey Fowler, allegedly stuck his hands into the young man's trousers and grabbed his genitals.
The complainant's mother said in a 2017 news conference that Spacey had bought her son "drink after drink after drink" and had "made his move" when the boy was drunk.
"He did not report the crime at the time, and that was largely because of embarrassment and fear," she said.
More from Kevin Spacey
Spacey, who won the Oscar for best actor in 2000 for American Beauty, was dropped from the final season of House Of Cards and erased from All The Money In The World after the allegations were made.
He is one of dozens of famous men who have been accused of sexual misconduct in the past few years, amid the #MeToo movement.
