Valve are reported to be working on their own VR hardware as well as a long-awaited follow-up, or perhaps prequel, to Half-Life 2.
Game review: Forgotton Anne is worth remembering
Its once again time to decide just how much effort you think some fans will put into faking a photo, bearing in mind that the last one – about Super Smash Bros. Ultimate – did in fact prove to be fake.
You should also bear in mind that these are Valve fans, who make Nintendo fans look sane and reserved by comparison.
That said, these really do look like photos of a new VR headset that Valve are making themselves, rather than the co-production with HTC that is the Vive line of hardware.
The photos only appeared online at the weekend but theyre time stamped as July 2018, despite not a word being heard about any of this up until now.
The headsets seem to feature built-in headphones, SteamVR sensors, and two cameras – with the implication of a larger field of view than other current headsets.

The padding is similar to Valves Kunckles prototype controller, but thats something a potential faker wouldve been well aware of.
As the Knuckles controller shows, Valve has made their own hardware before. Although most infamously with the Steam Machine line of custom PCs and controllers, which they seemed to lose interest in almost immediately.
Why theyd give up on partnering with HTC isnt clear either, although its possible that these photos were simply taken before that branding was added.
As for Half-Life VR… website UploadVR claims to have sources that have not only confirmed that the headsets are real (with 135° field of view and Vive Pro level resolution) but that itll come bundled with Half-Life VR.
Its suggested that the Half-Life game may be a prequel, rather than the much-imagined, but never announced, Half-Life 3.

Theres no more information – or more importantly proof – than that but for a long time now fans have imagined that if Valve ever did go back to Half-Life itd be for VR.
Lets just hope that imagining didnt stretch to faking some photos…
