Donald Trump has raised eyebrows by telling Americans to "CALM DOWN" in a bizarre all-caps tweet to commemorate the New Year.
While most world leaders welcomed in 2019 with messages of introspection and hope, the US president took a brasher approach – and included the shouty missive in a flurry of tweets.
He wrote: "HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE, INCLUDING THE HATERS AND THE FAKE NEWS MEDIA! 2019 WILL BE A FANTASTIC YEAR FOR THOSE NOT SUFFERING FROM TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME.
"JUST CALM DOWN AND ENJOY THE RIDE, GREAT THINGS ARE HAPPENING FOR OUR COUNTRY!"
Many fellow Twitter users reacted with bemusement.
One tweeted: "Great parody account. How do I find the real presidential account?" while others posted memes of various vehicles losing control before crashing off bridges and cliffs, referring to Mr Trump's "enjoy the ride" comment.
About an hour later, Mr Trump was back on Twitter again, opting for a decidedly more subdued greeting of "Happy New Year!" to his 56.8 million followers.
It is unclear whether Mr Trump was feeling frustrated at the time of his all-caps tweet – or whether the caps lock on his computer was stuck.
In all, Mr Trump tweeted more than a dozen times on New Year's Day.
He also recorded a 10-second video for his fellow Americans to wish them well even if they were "out there partying" while he was "in the White House working" as a partial government shutdown rumbles on.
Other tweets touched on an array of topics including North Korea, fuel prices, immigration and a book recommendation.
Meanwhile, rapper Kanye West has confirmed that he remains a fan of the president's and will wear his Make America Great Again cap during concerts.
The phrase was used by Mr Trump throughout his presidential campaign.
West tweeted: "One of my favourite of many things about what the Trump hat represents to me is that people can't tell me what to do because I'm black."
