There is a major controversy over the location of the proposed Obama Presidential Center in Chicago.
The center has been accused of gentrifying an urban neighborhood, ruining a park and being “socially regressive.” It has also been the subject of a lawsuit. The center has also been called ugly.
Now, the center faces a big cultural challenge. Chicago superstar, Chance the Rapper, tweeted Wednesday that he is not in favor of the center since the City Council, which just approved the plans, did not seek input from the neighborhood it will reside in.
“If theres no Community Benefits Agreement,” Chance said, “if City Council wont hear the residents of Woodlawn and Southshore, it ruins the legacy and puts folk at risk.”
Im excited for the Obama Presidential Library but if theres no Community Benefits Agreement, if City Council wont hear the residents of Woodlawn and Southshore, it ruins the legacy and puts folk at risk #ObamaCBA

This is not the first time that Chance has criticized Democrats this year. Last month, he noted that “Black people dont have to be democrats” in a tweet.
