A contestant on America's Got Talent has been charged with domestic violence just a day after performing in the show finale.
Michael Ketterer, 41, who came fifth in the TV show, was arrested in Hollywood at 3.45pm on Thursday, US media reports.
TMZ said the singer was apprehended after getting into a fight with his wife in their hotel room.
Police reportedly saw a visible red mark on her body.
Mr Ketterer confirmed to the showbiz website that although there had been an argument, his wife had not wanted to press charges.
The paediatric mental health nurse from Knoxville, Tennessee, claims the arrest was a big "misunderstanding".
He was charged with domestic violence and had bail set at $50,000 (£38,000).
TMZ reported that Mr Ketterer's case will be referred to LA City Attorney and downgraded to a misdemeanour due to his wife's minor injury.
Judge Simon Cowell had taken a shine to the father of six and suggested country singer Garth Brooks should mentor Mr Ketterer and possibly collaborate with him in the future.
Brooks went on to perform with Mr Ketterer during the one of the two finale episodes.
One of Mr Ketterer's fellow finalists was a 14-year-old British schoolgirl.
Courtney Hadwin, from Peterlee in County Durham, received a standing ovation after she performed a storming rendition of an Otis Redding classic during her audition back in June.
