Cyberpunk 2077 ready to work with next gen consoles says CD Projekt RED
Cyberpunk 2077 – will it be on the PS5 and Xbox Two?

The makers of The Witcher 3 have been talking about their next game again, and they may have given away more than they realised…

It may have been announced way back in 2012 but we still know virtually nothing about Cyberpunk 2077 other than it’s an action role-player that will be at least somewhat similar to The Witcher 3, only with a sci-fi setting.

There’s certainly been no screenshots or trailers, nor any clear idea of when it’s going to be released. Although it does seem as if CD Projekt are poised to reveal the game to the public at E3 in June.

Gamers aren’t the only ones that want more info though and in a recent investors meeting CD Projekt RED president Adam Kiciński did let slip some important details.

He was asked specifically whether the game would be released on both current and next gen consoles, i.e. the PlayStation 5 and whatever the next Xbox is called.

His entirely reasonable answer was: ‘Next gen hasn’t been announced yet, so we can only speculate’.

But he also added that, ‘Technology-wise, Cyberpunk is very advanced. Our technology is ready to interface with future generations’.

‘The game is developed in such a way that it can use very powerful future equipment, but I cannot tell you more beyond that today, as no future generation of consoles have been announced so far’.

There’s a lot of beating around the bush going on there but perhaps the most telling aspect is how everyone, including investors, seem to be assuming that the next consoles are just around the corner.

Even though there doesn’t seem to be any great need or demand for them from consumers.

And yet just today we’ve had Epic Games and their super-advanced Unreal Engine tech demos, while rumours suggested that some developers have had PlayStation 5 development kits for several months already.

Given how successful The Witcher 3 was you’d certainly expect CD Projekt RED to be near the top of Sony’s list, when distributing the kits, so it’s likely Kiciński knows a lot more than he’s letting on.

But for now both Cyberpunk 2077 and the next gen remain a mystery, and only one of them is likely to be solved by E3.
