Even as his home country was renewing sanctions against Iran, targeting the oil industry, American Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan was in Tehran, leading chants of “Death to America! Death to Israel!”

In addition to the chants, Farrakhan issued a direct warning to the United States, saying, “Today, I warn the American government that sanctioning Iran is a big mistake.” (RELATED: Trump Grants Sanctions Waivers To Eight Of Irans Biggest Oil Buyers)
Farrakhan reportedly sided with Iran in a meeting with the Secretary of Irans Expediency Council, Mohsen Rezaee, claiming that the United States was actively conspiring to destroy Iran and all Muslims.
“I understand how the enemies have plotted against the Iranian people and I would like to stay alongside you to stop their plots,” he told Rezaee.

Farrakhan, who has been in the headlines recently for referring to Jews as “termites” and for close ties to several prominent Democrats, also attacked the United States for keeping close ties with Saudi Arabia, saying that “Satan” was using that alliance to “divide all Muslims.”
The Nation of Islam leader was in Tehran to recognize the 39th anniversary of the U.S. embassy takeover in the Iranian capital, which occurred in 1979. Iranians “celebrated” by shining shoes with American and British flags and trampling mock-ups of the U.S. dollar.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani called the renewed sanctions “a war situation” and has already promised to defy them.
