Ubisoft are considering creating a World Cup tournament for Rainbow Six Siege, following its rising success on the esports circuit.
The competitive squad-based shooter has enjoyed an impressive turnaround since its original release back in December 2015, becoming Ubisofts flagship esports title and surpassing 30 million registered players back in April this year.
Speaking to Metro GameCentral at the Rainbow Six Siege Paris Major, Ubisofts esports director, Francois Xavier-Deniele, explained how a World Cup event could expand the games audience.
Asked about the possibility of a Rainbow Six Siege World Cup, Francois said: We are thinking about it. Its something we are thinking for sure.
A country based and nationality for the team is something… we just need to be sure, where we are putting it? What is the storytelling behind? What is the process of qualification? Were already quite busy with teams playing a lot, but its interesting because youre bringing another audience to your game – and the feeling of nationality can be very interesting to this kind of competition.

Ubisoft have also revealed a bunch of new pro team skins and charms heading to Rainbow Six, with revenues from the in-game cosmetics going to the respective team you support.
Its part of a new revenue sharing Pilot Program designed to turn team fandom into financial backing too, with 21 per cent of the revenue share from the new skins going directly to teams, while 9 per cent will be added to the Rainbow Six Siege prize pool.
Teams featured include FaZe, Vitality, TeamLiquid, SK Gaming, Rogue, Immortals, Ninjas in Pyjamas, Fanatic, mouz and EvilGeniuses, with the first skins set to be available alongside the upcoming Operation Grim Sky update.
Ubisoft have also detailed plans for the remaining Pro League season and beyond, with the Season 8 Finals kicking off in Rio De Janeiro on November 17 with a prize pool of $275,000 (£215,000).
Sieges next Invitational in 2019 will return to Montreal in February, boasting their biggest minimum prize pool yet of $650,000 (£510,000) – which is expected to soar beyond $1 million from the revenue sharing system.
The new Grim Sky update, expected to release in September, contains a revamped version of original map Hereford Base, along with two new operators Clash and Maverick.
