Professor Jordan Peterson reported on Tuesday that YouTube had blocked European access to one of the recently uploaded video on his channel.

Professor Jordan Peterson of the University of Toronto announced on Tuesday that one of his recent videos had been blocked in several countries. As of Tuesday, the video has been blocked in Austria, Bulgaria, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Germany, Estonia, France, United Kingdom, French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Croatia, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Lithuania, Latvia, Martinique, New Caledonia, French Polynesia, Poland, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, Reunion, Romania, Slovakia, French Southern Territories, Wallis and Futuna, and Mayotte.

Peterson linked to a support page that described what causes YouTube to censor videos in certain countries. The page suggests that videos are only restricted if they “incite violence” or contain “supremacist content.” Peterson called being associated with these categories a “chilling event.”
Our Community Guidelines prohibit hate speech that either promotes violence or has the primary purpose of inciting hatred against individuals or groups based on certain attributes. YouTube also prohibits content intended to recruit for terrorist organizations, incite violence, celebrate terrorist attacks, or otherwise promote acts of terrorism. Some borderline videos, such as those containing inflammatory religious or supremacist content without a direct call to violence or a primary purpose of inciting hatred, may not cross these lines for removal. Following user reports, if our review teams determine that a video is borderline under our policies, it may have some features disabled.
The video in question came from a portion of Peterson’s appearance on the H3H3 podcast in which he addressed a claim that he holds bigoted views. Peterson called the claim “completely ridiculous” and explained that he is an honorary member of a Native American tribe.

Later on Tuesday, Peterson announced that another of his recent videos had made YouTube’s selective Trending section. The video was a New Year’s Q&A in which Peterson answered questions from his social media followers.
